Cherry & Apple Mulled Cider

It is finally Spring, but Mother Nature is a fickle old thing and she’s bound to offer up a few more crisp cool evenings before it really warms up.  To ease you out of Winter, try my Cherry & Apple Mulled Cider.  It is a little twist on the mulled concept, using apple juice rather than red wine, but it is warm and cosy and tastes (and smells) devine.

I have a very dear friend who longs for roaring campfires and pots of hearty soup during Winter.  She convinced me to make her a mulled beverage a few weeks ago after the success of my Homemade Maraschino Cherries.  The Maraschino Cherry syrup adds the perfect amount of sweetness to the traditional blend of mulling spices and apple juice.  You can add more or less Brandy to suit the outside temperature.

Cherry & Apple Mulled Cider

Ingredients – Serves 4

1 Litre Cloudy Apple Juice

2 Oranges, cut into quarters

1/4 cup of Homemade Maraschino Cherry syrup

1/2 cup Brandy

2 Cinnamon Sticks

4 Cloves

3 Star Anise

1/2 tsp Nutmeg

1 tsp Vanilla Paste

Method

Add Apple juice, and spices to TM bowl.

Heat for 5 mins at 65 degrees, speed 1.

Add remaining ingredients except for Brandy.

Heat for 10 mins, 70 degrees, speed 1 Reverse.

Taste for sweetness, adding more cherry syrup if desired.

Add Brandy and stir through.

Serve in mugs, with whole spices for Garnish.
